Etsy Sale and Update

Clearly, I'm bad at updating the blog...I've been meaning too but just keep getting sidetracked! Sorry! This will be a quick update - I'm working on some natural dyeing today, and trying to update my Etsy, and dealing with some summer stuff. Feeling a little frazzled/overwhelmed really.

Anyway, I'm having a sale at my Etsy shop this week, and will be adding new items whenever I can. I listed some of my old pottery, bowls mostly.

I'll be adding some other clay pieces soon:

And a couple coiled baskets:

I'll try to post some of the stuff I'm working on right now soon - I have a huge backlog of photos, it's hard to keep up!

Shibori felting

I've been meaning to post for a while...I have all these photos of all this different stuff, I guess I got a little overwhelmed deciding what to share first.

I've been on a bit of a knitting kick lately - I think I'm enjoying its simplicity and repetitiveness. I'm really interested in something called shibori felting, which involves using various materials as resist in knitted fabric, then shrinking the fabric (a process technically called fulling but often called felting). Where the resists were, the fabric stays the same, so that the fulled fabric shrinks around the resist and creates three dimensional shapes.

Of course, I just realized I have no before pictures, but here are some images of a piece with the resists in place (in this case, crumbled up plastic bags) and some images of what it will look like when felted. I've actually felted this piece but haven't gotten photos of the finished product, so these are photos of two things - a neckwarmer/cowl before felting, and the test pieces after felting. Hope that makes sense.

(On an unrelated note, either I'm doing something wrong when processing or uploading my photos, or Picasa does something really terrible to them. I'll try to figure that out)

I want to write more about shibori, as it relates to both felting and dyeing, and I have a bunch of other stuff to share, but I don't have the attention span for a long post at the moment. I'll post again next week.
